How to Build a Trading Plan That Actually Works
Most traders lose money not because they lack ideas, but because they lack a plan. This is the SES framework — Structure. Sequence. Edge. System. — the same workflow we teach inside the SES Academy.
1. Structure — read the market first
Before you look at any indicator, map the higher-timeframe structure: swing highs, swing lows, liquidity pools, and the current phase (accumulation, expansion, distribution). Trading against structure is the most expensive mistake a retail trader makes.
2. Sequence — respect the order of events
Price does not move randomly. Every setup follows a sequence: liquidity sweep → shift in order flow → retest → continuation. If a step is missing, the trade is not valid — no matter how good the pattern looks.
3. Edge — quantify your advantage
An edge is not a feeling. It is a measurable statistical advantage: win rate × average win vs loss rate × average loss. Track every trade in a journal — SES members use the built-in Journal that auto-computes expectancy per setup.
4. System — remove the human
Write your rules down. Entry criteria, invalidation, position sizing, and exit logic. If a trade doesn't match the checklist, you don't take it. This is what separates a trader from a gambler.
The SES checklist
- Higher-timeframe bias is defined and written down
- Setup matches a documented SES sequence
- Risk per trade ≤ 1% of account
- Reward-to-risk ≥ 2R before entry
- Journal entry created within 5 minutes of the trade
